The chemical formula of dolomite is CaMg[CO3]2. Dolomite crystal is a carbonate mineral belongs to trigonal system. The crystal structure of dolomite is similar to calcite, rhombohedra crystal shape with saddle crystal surface; usually seen as polysynthetic twin; lump and granular aggregate. Pure dolomite appears in white, and in other colors as grey green, grey yellow and pink when with other elements or impurities; glassy lustre; three rhombohedron clearve complete with brittle characteristics. Mohs hardness: 3.5-4; specific gravity: 2.8-2.9. The reaction of mineral power in cold dilute hydrochloric acid is slow. Dolomite is the main mineral composition to form dolostone and dolomite limestone. Dolomite can be used for metallurgical flux, refractory material, construction material, ingredients of glass and ceramics.
Dolomite can be also used for the refractory lining of reformer for steelmaking, slag-making material, cement raw material, glass flux, ceramics, fertilizer, construction and decoration stones, paints, pesticide and medicine in the fields of building materials, ceramics, glass, refractory materials, chemistry, agriculture, environmental protection, and energy-saving, etc.
