Barium sulfate is a kind of odorless and flavorless orthorhombic crystal in white color. Its molecular formula is BaSO4. The density is 4.25-4.5, and the decomposition temperature is above 1600℃. Barium sulfate is soluble in hot concentrated sulfuric acid, and it is almost insoluble in water, dilute acid, and alcohol. Its water suspension solution presents neutral in litmus paper test. Barium sulfate can be used as the filler of white pigment, paper and rubber. Besides, it is also used as a medicine in Gastrointestinal Fluoroscopy.
